DuPont opens new facility dedicated to paint research

Dec. 15, 2010—DuPont Performance Coatings opened a new Coatings Technology Center (CTC) at its global headquarters for research and development, according to a DuPont press release_notes.

CTC is a research and development facility, located at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Del., is dedicated to coating science, specifically DuPont Refinish Systems products and DuPont Industrial Coatings Solutions.

The $30 million facility is 100,000 square feet of development and office spaces. The scientists are aiming to improve paint durability under high humidity and exposure to abrasive and corrosive elements. Water-based coatings will also be looked at for improvement at the new facility.

“Innovation is essential to the continued growth of our coatings businesses,” said John McCool, president of DuPont Performance Coatings. “This investment in research and development clearly demonstrates our commitment to growing our global coatings businesses.”
