Musk: Teslas to Have ‘Auto-Pilot Capability’ in 5–6 Years

Sept. 11, 2014—Tesla is racing to beat its rivals from both the tech and auto industry to create driverless vehicles, and founder and CEO Elon Musk told reporters in Tokyo that “in the long term, all Tesla cars will have auto-pilot capability,” according to a report in Business Insider. 

With no driverless vehicles currently on the market, companies like Google and Volvo have already begun testing technology that allows vehicles to operate without a driver.

Musk expects Tesla to have vehicles with driverless technology within five or six years, according to the report.

Musk was in Tokyo to announce the release of his company’s Model S in Japan.
