Total Loss Percentages Increase During Early Winter Months

Nov. 1, 2015

According to Mitchell’s Q4 Industry Trends Report, when total loss percentages peak, the value of total losses declines. In a study that looked at total losses from January 2013 through August 2015, Mitchell found that the peaks in percentages occur in the early winter months of November through January, when vehicle owners have yet to adjust their driving during the first snowfalls. Then, as more severe weather follows in February and March, the value of each total increases dramatically, despite totals occurring less frequently.
