AT&T Debuts Unlimited Data Plan for Connected Cars

May 25, 2016

May 25, 2016—AT&T has debuted a new unlimited data plan for connected cars that allows current AT&T unlimited data customers to add an unlimited data plan to their vehicles, according to a report from Business Insider.

To get the data plan, cars must have an embedded Wi-Fi connection or a ZTE Mobley Wi-Fi plug-in device. The unlimited data plan costs $40 per car, but customers can also opt for a one gigabyte per month plan for $10.

AT&T said it had more that 8 million connected cars on its network as of the end of Q1 2016, but not every vehicle had its connected features activated by its owner.

Nineteen different auto manufacturers have made a partnership with AT&T.

More than 380 million connected vehicles are expected to be on the road by 2021, and they are expected to play a major role in the introduction of fully autonomous vehicles.
