Recycled Rides Event Honors Soldiers

May 22, 2015

May 22, 2015—On Tuesday, Cheryl Zaun, mother of Sergeant First Class Mickey E. Zaun, was presented with a vehicle donated by Farmers Insurance and repaired by LaMettry’s Collision in Minnesota.

Zaun lost her son 10 years ago due to injuries sustained during an armored vehicle collision in Iraq.

The presentation of the 2009 Nissan Altima to Zaun was a part of the Recycled Rides event in honor of Memorial Day. The keynote speaker was Senator David Hann from District 48 who is also a Vietnam Vet. The Senator thanked the Zaun family and told them that the Recycled Ride was “a symbol of respect and gratitude that we have for what you and your son have given to our country.”

Other speakers at the event were Rep. Jim Nash (District 47A) and SSG Scott Adams who was a recipient of LaMettry’s Recycled Ride in November 2013.

Adams spoke of the Recycled Ride project: “As an NCO, when you’re out there, you want information. What you always tell your troops is, ‘Hey, don’t bring me problems, bring me solutions.’ And that’s what you have done with this. You’ve made a solution to veterans’ and their family’s problems. And you’re fixing them.”

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the keys from Joanne LaMettry, CEO of LaMettry’s Collision, to Cheryl Zaun. This is the fifth vehicle LaMettry has repaired and donated.

“Oh gosh, I can’t believe it!” Zaun said when she was presented with the keys. “I have to say, my son Mickey was a motorhead. I’m sure he’s smiling down from heaven. This is an unbelievable gift for me.”
