VW, LG Partner to Develop Connected Car Platform

July 7, 2016

July 7, 2016—Volkswagen Group announced Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with LG to jointly develop a next-generation connected car platform.

The two companies will work together on VW’s Cross-Over-Platform, aimed to enhance vehicle connectivity and convenience. It will offer drivers digital access to features such as smart home and location-based services. Drivers may soon be able to control lights, security systems, and domestic appliances from the road. Next-generation infotainment will also be developed, along with real-time, context-sensitive driver notifications.

"LG Electronics and Volkswagen are teaming up to develop the next generation of connected car platform that allows wide integration with smart home services and adoption of open IoT connectivity technologies," said head of LG Cloud Center Richard Choi. "We think LG's expertise in smart technology together with Volkswagen's leadership in the automotive sector will revolutionize the way drivers interact with their vehicles."
