Audi Plans Three Electric Vehicles by 2020

July 26, 2016

July 26, 2016—Audi aims to have three electric vehicles on sale by 2020, with sales of those vehicles accounting for 25–30 percent of the automaker’s total sales, according to Reuters.

The push toward electric cars is part of a refocused strategy to make up for Audi’s diesel emissions scandal. Audi CEO, Rupert Stadler, said VW Group will focus more on the development of electric and autonomous cars.

It was also reported that Audi would be cutting development funds to other projects to refocus the fund on electric car development. This would include dropping a two-door version of the A3 sedan, among other developments.

"We have discussed what would happen if we dropped the two-door version of the A3. I think we would barely lose any customers. We'd rather invest the money that is freed up in new models and other derivatives," Stadler said.
