Feb. 5, 2015—One of the greatest challenges facing shop operators today is finding and keeping talented employees—and the consequences for hiring the wrong staff can be costly. Attendees of the FenderBender Management Conference in May will have an opportunity to learn how to overcome this imposing obstacle, from a veteran shop owner who has done it himself.
Industry coach Ron Perretta, owner and president of Pennsylvania-based Professionals Auto Body, will lead “How to Hire and Retain Top Talent,” a session that will teach shop owners and managers how to identify staffing needs, attract and hire the best candidates, and keep them on board for the long haul. The hiring process is one Perretta always keeps top-of-mind, utilizing 24/7 job postings and an apprentice program for growing talent, among other tactics. This, despite the fact that his staff loyalty is outstanding—the average employee has been with his company for 15 years.
“Ron has been able to build a collision repair dream team within his shop, proving that the industry staffing woes we hear so much about can be overcome,” said FenderBender editor Jake Weyer. “Ron’s story on this subject is an inspiring one, and best of all, it’s real. He’s a consultant, but he’s also a shop owner involved in running the business every day. His strategies are applicable throughout the industry.”
Perretta founded his business 35 years ago and has grown it into a thriving two-shop operation. He also owns a mechanical shop, towing company and glass company. He has served as a business management coach for shop owners, managers and other industry professionals for the last two decades.
