Mitchell Releases Third Quarter Trends Report

Aug. 11, 2015—Mitchell released on Tuesday the results of its Industry Trends Report (ITR) for the third quarter of 2015.

The Third Quarter ITR looked at a number of different trends in the auto industry, including the top 10 parts most frequently damaged in a repairable collision, the amount of parts that are replaced vs. repaired, an increase in collision claims since 2013, and length of rental trends.

Some key findings from the ITR  found losses on collision claims up 8.4 percent since 2013 and  401,000 more collision claims than in 2014. The average length of rental (LOR) rose to 11 days with the Northeast region of the country averaging the highest LOR at 12.3. days. Another finding was that bumper covers are the most commonly replaced part in a repairable collision, at 72 percent with a 68 percent involvement rate, which means more time should be dedicated to training for bumper cover repair.
