April 2, 2015—Kia on Wednesday announced that more than 50 percent of the body of its 2016 Kia Optima will be comprised of advanced high-strength steel.

This represents a 150-percent increase over the previous model year vehicle.

Kia said the result is a lighter, stronger body for better fuel economy and handling.

"This body structure helps provide crash protection, better driving dynamics, and is the foundation for a quieter ride," Kia said in a press release.
