Automotive Recyclers file complaint against Honda, Hyundai for aftermarket comments

October 22, 2010—The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) announced on Thursday that they filed a formal complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Hyundai Motor America and American Honda concerning those companies’ comments against the use of recycled auto parts.

In August, Honda release_notesd a statement saying that the use of aftermarket parts on its cars could cause car owners to lose warranty coverage. The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) made a formal complaint with the FTC against Honda for violating the Magnuson-Moss Act.

The ARA letter also says the car companies’ threat of warranty refusals could be in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Act, according to the ARA press release.

The Magnuson-Moss Act prohibits companies from setting warranty conditions for the use of non-original parts.
