April 21, 2010—The Michigan House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday that would ban texting and driving in the state.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm is expected to sign the bill, which passed the House 74-33. The new law bans all motorists from sending and reading text messages while driving in Michigan, and it allows police to pull a driver over if text messaging is suspected.
“We are encouraged that the House has passed the text ban,” said AAA Michigan President Steve Wagner. “With primary enforcement, we know Michigan roads will be safer.”
