PPG introduces online color identification tool

April 4, 2012

April 4, 2012—PPG Automotive Refinish on Tuesday announced the launch of Paint It, a Web-based color identification and selection tool to help collision repairers find the most current automotive color information for domestic and import vehicles.

PPG said Paint It makes color identification and selection in the automotive refinish process easier and more accurate. Users of the application can search for a vehicle’s color information by year, model, color family, finish effect or usage. Digital representations of body and non-body colors are displayed with images and data to assist with the color visualization process.

In addition to exterior vehicle colors, Paint It also identifies accent, interior, under-hood, wheel and trim colors, PPG said. That allows paint technicians to verify all necessary color components prior to beginning the repair.

Paint It is accessible to repairers online at ppgpaintit.com. No special software is required to operate the application, according to PPG.

“Paint It is a departure from past methods for finding the right color for a given vehicle. It’s designed to be intuitive for auto industry professionals who typically use a variety of color identification tools,” said Mary Kimbro, global color director for PPG. “Distributors, collision shop owners, paint technicians and even hobbyists looking to identify a vehicle’s color can use this tool by simply going to the Paint It application and doing an easy search. Finding the right color is now straightforward and the refinish process is much simpler and faster.”
