I-CAR awards individuals for commitment to training

SALT LAKE CITY, July 20, 2011 — I-CAR on Tuesday presented four awards to industry professionals recognizing them for their commitment to training and involvement with the organization.

The awards, presented during the welcome reception at I-CAR’s 2011 Industry Event, include:

• Tech Center Award. The Tech Center Award recognizes individuals who are instrumental in providing expertise and knowledge in preparing new I-CAR offerings, according to I-CAR. The award was presented to American Honda Motor Co. and I-CAR instructor Shawn Rollins.

• Service Award. This award recognizes individuals who have served the I-CAR organization for at least 20 years. The award was presented to I-CAR instructor Kirk Cook.

• Russ Verona Award. The Russ Verona Award—created in honor of Russ Verona, owner of the first shop to achieve I-CAR Gold Class status—is given to a Gold Class shop that makes strong contributions to their local community. The award was presented to Eric Grossman, owner of Eric’s CARSTAR in Tucson, Ariz. Eric’s CARSTAR was the third shop in history to achieve I-CAR Gold Class status, and has held the designation for 21 years.

• Outstanding Platinum Individual Award. This award—created in honor of Jeff Silver, founder of the I-CAR Platinum Individual designation—is given to individuals who hold the I-CAR Platinum designation and give back the to industry. The award was presented to Joe Lacy, who has worked with GEICO for 39 years.

“The people who receive these awards are not only highly committed to training and attending industry events, but they’re also committed to making a difference in their communities,” said Jeff Peevy, director of field operations for I-CAR. “They’re a positive influence on everybody they touch.”
