Two Ohioans Claim PPG Dream Car Honors

Aug. 30, 2013

Aug. 30, 2013—Two Ohio residents were honored with the PPG Dream Car award at the 16th annual Goodguys PPG Nationals held July 12–14 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio.

David Llanes’ 1964 Impala Sport Coupe and Barry Penfound’s 1964 Pontiac GTO took home the prize for best demonstrating outstanding use of color, design gloss and execution in a paint job.

Llanes, from Sheffield Village, Ohio, restored the Impala in his garage for six years after acquiring it from his uncle and added the white-over-orange finish as an eye-catching finish.

Penfound, from Elyria, Ohio, bought his GTO, named Sabertooth, over 10 years ago. The only original parts that could be salvaged were the hood, firewall and roof. Penfound rebuilt the car in his shop, Penfound Design. Using a unique PPG mix, Penfound dubbed his one-of-a-kind blue as “PPGTO Blue.”
