AMI awards six scholarships

Sept. 9, 2011—The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) recently announced the recipients of six scholarships.

Each scholarship recipient has worked in the automotive industry for several years, and is working on completing the necessary requirements to earn the AMI’s Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation. They will receive $1,000 toward expenses to attend the 2011 NACE and CARS events, which will be held Oct. 5-8 in Orlando, Fla.

The scholarships and recipients are as follows:

The 2011 Emil Stanley Merit Award was presented to Chris Renfro, general manager of Car-O-Van Collision Center in Orlando, Fla.

“I am honored to be the recipient of this award and I’m looking forward to the training and networking opportunities this scholarship will facilitate,” Renfro said. “This opportunity will provide me with new knowledge and help build industry relationships that are critical to my future success.”

The 2011 AVI Education Scholarship was presented to Tawaina Frost, office manager and service consultant of Price’s Automotive Services Inc. in Wrightsville, Ga.

“I’m grateful to receive this scholarship,” Frost said. “If offers me the opportunity to meet others in the industry and further my education and knowledge.”

The 2011 Zurich “High Octane” Scholarship was presented to John Firm, owner of Firm Automotive in Fort Worth, Texas.

“As a technician and as an owner, my entire career has been one of seeking ways to improve myself, my business and the industry,” Firm said. “I am grateful to receive this opportunity to continue my education and network with other industry professionals.”

The 2011 Richard Cossette/Gale Westerlund Memorial Scholarship was presented to James Noe, manager of Nagy’s Collision Specialists in Orrville, Ohio.

“The opportunity to attend the education and network with other industry professionals enables me to become a better leader,” Noe said.

The 2011 Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship was presented to Donald Schnitzler, owner of Don’s Auto Repair Inc. in Cincinnati.

“I’m honored to be selected as the recipient of the Tom B. Babcox Scholarship and to be given this opportunity to improve my management skills,” Schnitzler said. “I wish to thank AMI and Babcox Publications for their commitment to education and training.”

The 2011 BodyShop Business Magazine Scholarship was presented to Kristine Linscombe, manager of Hernandez Collision Center in Hinesville, Ga.

“I’m honored for this opportunity and look forward to expanding my knowledge of the industry attending the educational sessions and networking events offered at NACE,” Linscombe said.
