Anthony Foxx Sworn in as Secretary of Transportation

July 5, 2013

July 5, 2013—Charlotte, N.C., Mayor Anthony Foxx was sworn in Tuesday as the new U.S. secretary of transportation.

Foxx replaces former Illinois Congressman Ray LaHood.

Foxx was confirmed by the Senate earlier in June by a vote of 100-0 and sworn in by Judge Nathaniel Jones.

“Safety will remain our top priority at DOT,” said Foxx in a statement. “At the same time, I will work to improve the efficiency and performance of our current transportation system while building the infrastructure we need for future generations.”

Foxx served as mayor of Charlotte, N.C., from 2009 to 2013.
