NACE 2010: WIN donates $10,000 to World Skills competitor

Oct. 13, 2010

Oct. 13, 2010, LAS VEGAS—The Women’s Industry Network (WIN) donated $10,000 to Kayla Toncik Tuesday during NACE to help her go to London for the World Skills competition in October 2011.

Toncik became the first female to win first place in refinishing at the 2009 Skills USA competition. That earned her the ability to represent the United States in car painting at the World Skills competition. She is the first female to represent the United States in that competition, said Kim White, chair of WIN.

“This is something so in line with WIN’s mission that we want to ensure it’s possible for [Toncik] to attend,” White said. “She wouldn’t be able to go without this donation.”

It will cost Toncik $34,000 to attend the competition. Toncik, who is a painter at Brown Daub Auto Body in Nazareth, Penn., will participate in a 20-hour competition that will include painting, blending and decal design, White said.

The World Skills competition will be held Oct. 5-8, 2011 in London.

People can make additional donations to WIN is support of Toncik. Checks can be submitted to the Women’s Industry Network, White said.
