Esurance Launches Claims Appraisal Feature in Smartphone App

May 28, 2013—Esurance has launched a new feature within the Esurance mobile app that allows customers to capture and submit vehicle photographs electronically, which the company said is designed to help policyholders settle claims more quickly and conveniently.

Esurance said the new feature could streamline and expedite the claims process after an auto accident by eliminating the need for in-person visits from an Esurance claims appraiser. The photograph feature requires the following four-step process:

1. After a policyholder files a claim, they use their smartphone to photograph the vehicle damage and VIN. The photographs are submitted to the Esurance claims team through the Esurance mobile app.
2. The Esurance claims team reviews the photographs and facts of the accident, and determines the available options for the customer.
3. An Esurance claims appraiser contacts the customer to discuss the repairs.
4. The customer chooses how they prefer to have money transferred to cover the costs of repair.

Esurance said the new mobile app feature is now available for iPhone devices. The feature is expected to be compatible with Android devices this summer.

“It's yet another tool from Esurance that makes car insurance easier. Currently, Esurance customers can use the app to get a car insurance quote, view their ID card, manage their policy, file a claim, find a repair shop and monitor their car repairs with RepairView,” Esurance said.
