Kia donates $1.5 million for Georgia tornado relief

May 5, 2011

May 5, 2011 — Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG) on Wednesday announced the donation of $1.5 million to the American Red Cross to help with tornado relief efforts in the state.

Georgia was among several southern states hit in late April by a massive storm system that caused widespread destruction and killed hundreds of people.

“KMMG is committed to supporting our neighbors, friends and families in the State of Georgia, and our thoughts are with those who were impacted by the recent events,” said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of Kia Motors America and KMMG. “Since arriving in Georgia we have established a very positive relationship with the state and its people, and we are confident the American Red Cross will utilize this donation to provide valuable assistance where it is needed.”

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal said the donation would go a long way toward helping victims of the storms rebound.

“This is a fine example of the kind of leadership role at which our corporate citizens in Georgia excel,” Deal said.

KMMG, which started operations in 2009, was the first Kia manufacturing site built in North America. Kia Motors Corporation is based in Seoul, Korea.
