AASP-MN to Present Safety Compliance Workshop

May 3, 2013

May 3, 2013—The Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Minnesota (AASP-MN) will host a safety compliance workshop for automotive repair shop operators May 16 at its offices in Roseville, Minn.

AASP-MN said all automotive repair facilities—both collision and mechanical shops—are required to implement “A Workplace Accident & Injury Reduction” (AWAIR) program by June 10. The program is meant to help shop owners create a safer workplace by providing a mechanism for identifying and correcting workplace hazards. The AWAIR program provides the framework for an effective safety program, AASP-MN said.

AASP-MN’s workshop, titled “2013 Safety Compliance: AWAIR Workshop,” will review major hazards in the automotive repair industry and help attendees make assessments of their shop and shop practices. The shop assessment will explain what to look for in terms of potential injuries, costs to the shop and costs of penalties or citations from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Representatives from Complete Health Environmental and Safety Services (CHESS) will also help workshop attendees develop their own in-house program, including a customized written AWAIR program, shop self-assessments and shop inspection forms.

Two workshop sessions are scheduled for May 16. The first session will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the second session from 6–9 p.m.

Attendees can register for the event online at aaspmn.org.
