April 18, 2013—The National Auto Body Council (NABC) has received nearly $250,000 in pledges and donations toward its $1.5 million Capital Campaign for Operation Comfort’s AutoMotivation program, the organization announced this week.

The Capital Campaign goal is to purchase, renovate and equip a 30,000-square-foot training facility in San Antonio that will serve as the permanent home for the AutoMotivation program, which provides occupational and rehabilitative therapies for wounded service members.

The NABC also hopes to provide opportunities for participants to work toward a career in the collision industry by acquiring I-CAR curriculum-based training.

“We are thrilled with the momentum and support coming from all corners of the industry to support this cause,” said Chuck Sulkala, executive director of the NABC. “Many companies, regardless of size, are joining our fundraising efforts and finding ways to engage their customers and employees to support this great program for our wounded troops.”

Companies that have already launched fundraising initiatives for Operation Comfort include Hertz, which raised $50,000 through its Hertz for Heroes program during Presidents’ Day weekend; 3M Corp., which is pledging $50,000 based on sales of selected automotive aftermarket products; Sterling Autobody Centers, which has pledged a $30,000 corporate donation and anticipates an additional $30,000 fundraising total; and Keenan Auto Body, which will match every donation received dollar for dollar at each of their shop locations.

“Our heartfelt thanks to the many companies and individuals who have already donated and pledged their support,” said Sulkala. “There are many more companies with fundraising efforts in the works and we look forward to sharing more exciting news on their successes and contributions toward our Capital Campaign goal.”
