Aug. 21, 2019—The Boyd Group Income Fund recently completed its 2Q19 survey of the North American collision repair sector and found that the technician shortage is "less" worse.
Survey data suggests the technician shortage issue could finally be stabilizing or even improving on the margin. The 2Q 2019 net survey score improved sequentially to 1.5, a modest improvement over 1.7 in 1Q 2019, and material improvement versus the 2.1 in 3Q 2018.
Only 35 percent of respondents indicated conditions worsened in the period with 60 percent feeling availability held roughly the same.
According to the report, "Better Pay" and "Career Planning" continue to be the preferred mitigation strategies. Both have been fading in recent quarters, while "Enhanced Benefits" has remained consistent for several periods.
