Aug. 13, 2019—Group 1 Automotive recently donated money to the El Paso Victims Relief Fund.
The fund has received more than $1.8 million in donations from over 3,400 donors. The fund was established to support victims and their families after the Aug. 3 shooting at a Walmart store. The shooting left 22 dead and dozens injured.
The Paso del Norte Community Foundation is working with the city of El Paso and other funding and community partners to coordinate and provide direct financial assistance to the victims and their families to assist with short, medium and long-term expenses.
Group 1 Automotive has eight dealerships in the El Paso area.
Among the victims of the shooting were a son and daughter-in-law of an El Paso body shop owner. Gilbert Anchondo, owner of Color Master Paint & Body Shop in El Paso, Texas, lost his son Andre and Andre's wife Jordan during the shooting, according to a report by the El Paso Times.
Andre and Jordan Anchondo died protecting their 2-month-old son, Paul, from the domestic terrorist who opened fire Saturday at the Walmart near Cielo Vista Mall.
