CIC Day Two Top Highlights
INDIANAPOLIS, July 25, 2019—The second day of CIC Indianapolis kick started with a heated discussion about OE and aftermarket parts. Eric Mendoza, manager for collision department for Toyota North America and David Williams, director of original equipment service parts division for DENSO, spoke on the topic.
Then, the estimating committee took the stage to discuss how estimates on today’s cars need to account for damage and data that cannot be seen. The last time the estimating committee was a part of CIC was between 2000 and 2008.
Roger Cada, with Accountable Estimating, asked CIC attendees to submit all examples to a CIC Estimating Committee “Drop Box” in order to find where the industry is at with estimates and feeling confident in following OE procedures.
The committee said that with the repair technicians not feeling 100 percent confident they have caught everything on the estimate following OE procedures, then the customer is at risk.
During the emerging technologies and insurer & repairer committees, Jack Rozint, senior vice president of sales and service, auto physical damage solutions, for Mitchell International, shared some ADAS features that repairers can expect to see in the future.
Features included targets systems for lane departures (Honda, Toyota), reflector for blind spot radar calibration for ultrasonic radar (Honda, Toyota, Kia), IR calibration target for pedestrian infrared camera detection (BMW 7), etc.
The day ended with an open mic session. Kurt Lammon, with Polyvance, went up to the mic and asked shop operators to reach out to him in regards to issues with recycling plastics.
Lammon says he has gotten an influx of calls from shops asking for help recycling plastic bumpers.
“I think it is due to the demise of plastic bumper recycling,” Lammon says. “They’re piling up and causing a problem with disposal.”
