June 26, 2019—The owner of a body shop previously located in Jupiter, Fla. has been charged with scamming recent Major League Baseball first baseman Logan Morrison out of roughly $65,000, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Thomas Lloyd of Jupiter faces a pair of charges, or money laundering between $20,000 and $100,000 and grand theft between $20,000 and $100,000. He was arrested at mid month and is being held on a $10,000 bond.
Morrison, who played for the Minnesota Twins in 2018 and is currently in the New York Yankees' farm system, paid Bubba's Exotic Motorsports, owned by Thomas and Jonathan Lloyd, roughly $75,000 in early 2018 to restore his 2001 Ford Excursion. Morrison had hoped to give the vehicle a Rolls-Royce style interior, among other upgrades, according to a probable cause affidavit.
But, by Feb. 2019, when Morrison reclaimed his vehicle from the shop, which had then moved to Lake Park, little work had actually been done, police noted. According to an expert, the only work that appeared to have been done was a new paint job and new tires. The expert also said the paint job was shoddy in areas.
Thomas Lloyd's attorney, Brian T. Pakett, told the newspaper that his client looks forward to fighting the charges and clearing his name.
