June 3, 2019—General Motors CEO Mary Barra is visiting factories to promote goodwill, reported The Detroit Free Press.
This year, Barra has visited nine plants.
Last week, Barra told the 4,500 workers at the Fort Wayne Assembly plant that GM will invest $24 million on assembly line technology to speed up pickup production. GM's new executive vice president of global manufacturing Gerald Johnson was with her at the plant for the news. It was his second tour of duty with Barra at a factory investment announcement since he took over the job from Alicia Boler Davis on April 1.
When asked why Barra personally shows up at these investment announcements, GM spokesman Pat Morrissey said: “She feels it’s important for her to be visible to the employees and to the community to make these announcements."
