April 16, 2019—AASPI's legislation SB2104 on Monday passed out of the Illinois Senate.
This bill provides that no vehicle repair facility may use repair procedures that are not in compliance with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), and provides for consumer choice regarding OEM parts. Senator Thomas Cullerton (D-Villa Park) carried the bill for AASPI.
According to AASPI's lobbyist Brian Wojcicki, "getting it out of the Senate was our first hurdle and the first time over the past two years we have been able to move this type of legislation."
Wojcicki further stated, "there will be more negotiations with all interested parties as the bill now moves to the House of Representatives."
Representative Elizabeth Hernandez (D-Cicero) is sponsoring the bill in the House.
