March 13, 2019—Mitchell on Tuesday released its Industry Trends Report for the first quarter of 2019.

The report addresses topics like the impact of 5G wireless, automobile design changes that are good for the environment and how technology can improve claims outcomes.

The capacity for a massive increase in connected devices that respond seemingly instantly will bring about important innovations in a range of sectors, including the property and casualty and collision repair industries, according to the report.

One article within the report, "5G: What High-Flying Predictions Mean for the Property & Casualty and Collision Repair Industries" is written by Alex Sun. In it, Sun says that 5G will enable connections of up to 1 million devices per square kilometer.

5G has the potential to be a game-changer in terms of how connected cars interact both with other vehicles and with the environment around them. In the future, 5G will enable faster, more reliable connections with cellular networks as well as “vehicle to anything (V2X)” communications—with the anything being “car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure” linkages, as Digital Trends’ Jeff Zurschmeide explains, according to the report.
