Oct. 9, 2018—Automotive parts supplier Flex-N-Gate recently opened a $160 million manufacturing facility in Detroit, which represents the largest investment by an automotive supplier in Detroit in more than two decades.

The new Flex-N-Gate facility has already begun production for the Ford Ranger. So far, over half of the facility’s workforce is comprised of Detroit residents, according to The Detroit News.

Flex-N-Gate, an Urbana, Ill., company, builds vehicles front-end parts, such as bumpers, for auto manufacturers. Ford awarded the company a long-term contract to manufacture parts.

The Detroit plant is manufacturing roughly 50 percent of the body for the Ford Ranger.
