Senators who sit on the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee questioned Heidi King about her oversight of the recall of defective Takata air bag inflators, according to the report.

King has been serving as deputy administrator of the NHTSA for seven months. She came to the NHTSA with a background as global director of environmental health and safety risk at GE Capital.

King told lawmakers she will meet with each of the auto manufacturers to go through their plans to complete the recall and replacement of the air bags.
