March 9, 2018

The insurer’s Tacoma operation—call centers that handle claims—employs 1,400 people. Of those, 600 jobs will be relocated to State Farm’s DuPont office, where about 1,000 people already work.

March 9, 2018—State Farm will close offices in multiple states, according to The News Tribune and The Chicago Tribune.

The insurer’s Tacoma operation—call centers that handle claims—is split between offices at the Frank Russell Building, 909 A. St., and at the Columbia Bank Center at 1301 A. St. About 1,400 people in total work at the two sites. Of those, 600 jobs will be relocated to State Farm’s DuPont office, where about 1,000 people already work.

State Farm Petaluma, Calif., and Parsippany, N.J., facilities are scheduled to be closed sometime this year, State Farm had announced in May 2017. Nine other facilities are to be shuttered between 2019 and 2021.

All of the 4,200 employees (out of 70,000) affected by those 11 closures “will continue to have job opportunities in other State Farm locations," the company wrote in a news release in May 2017.

Now, State Farm is cutting about 890 information technology positions at its Bloomington, Ill., headquarters as part of a “realignment” and downsizing of the department.

Affected employees were given notice Tuesday and offered the opportunity to apply for openings in other departments or approximately 380 IT jobs that are moving out of state.

The company also announced Thursday it will close its two Tacoma offices by the end of the year, potentially putting 800 out of work.
