Dec. 27, 2012—Great Bear Auto Repair and Body Shop based in Flushing, N.Y., was recently selected to receive the 2012 Best of Queens Award in the automobile repair category by the Queens Award Program.

The Queens Award Program is an annual awards program designed to honor the achievements and accomplishments of local businesses throughout the Queens, N.Y., area. Recognition is given to companies in several categories that have shown ability to implement marketing programs that generate competitive advantages and long-term community value. Winning companies must prove to enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Organizers of the Queens Award Program said various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. Winners were determined based on information gathered internally and data provided by third parties.

Great Bear Auto Repair and Body Shop has implemented several campaigns that add value to its community. Shop owner Audra Fordin created a program in 2009 called “Women Auto Know,” a program meant to empower women through automotive education. Fordin works with several educational and environmental programs in which she hosts workshops and seminars to educate and mentor women and individuals with disabilities. Fordin has also been a Girl Scout troop leader for six years, and has developed programs to educate Girl Scout participants about auto repair and environmental responsibility.
