Cleveland — Martin Senour Automotive Finishes is pleased to announce its training schedule for the second quarter of 2005, which includes four new classes: Jobber Level 1, Jobber Level 2, Basic Paint, and Recreational Vehicle (RV) Refinishing.  The training schedule (see below), enrollment form and other Training Center information are available on the Martin Senour Automotive Finishes Web site: www.martinsenour-autopaint.com.

“Martin Senour is committed to meeting the needs of NAPA sales personnel and today’s paint technicians,” said Rod Habel, Martin Senour Manager of Training Operations. “This year we are expanding our offerings by introducing classes that will help them become more efficient and productive.”

The four new training classes now being offered include:

Basic Paint Class

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of paint in this one-day course.  The focus is on color documentation and retrieval, evaluating customer paint needs and product selection.  The course is designed for entry-level jobber employees, sales personnel or NAPA-D.C. personnel, requiring an introductory class on color research and formulation.

Course content includes:

  • Locating vehicle paint codes
  • Using color chip books
  • Using the Color Works Box
  • The differences in paint prefixes
  • Hands on mixing
  • Martin Senour Website and Web Scales
  • Related product selling
  • Product discussion

Jobber Level 1

Students are introduced to the fundamentals and details of the refinishing industry in this three-day course.  Topics covered include procedures, theory, evaluating customer needs, and product overviews of paint systems that include Crossfire™, Prism™, MSU™ and an overview of the Tec System™.  The course is designed for entry-level jobber employees and sales personnel requiring a class on the latest products and procedures. 

Jobber Level 1 course content includes:

  • Safety procedures and equipment
  • Sprayable cost analysis
  • Abrasives usage and positioning
  • Sanding & polishing techniques
  • Surface preparation & corrosion protection
  • Product positioning
  • Undercoat systems, options & applications
  • Computer formula retrieval
  • Topcoat systems, options & applications
  • Selling concepts and procedures
  • Equipment (HVLP and short wave infra-red)
  • Paint coating technology (OEM and refinish)

Jobber Level 2

Designed to expand a student’s technical knowledge of the vehicle refinishing industry, this class engages students in discussion and practical applications with current products and repair procedures. The three-day course focuses on the Tec System product line with an overview of the Crossfire™, Prism™ and MSU™ paint systems.  Jobber/sales personnel must have a good technical understanding of the industry or have attended the Jobber Level 1 class.

  • Safety procedures and equipment
  • Competitive cost analysis
  • Advanced problem solving techniques
  • Specifying materials for productivity
  • Topcoat systems, options & applications
  • OEM updates
  • Web based formula retrieval
  • Selling concepts and procedures
  • Undercoat systems, options & applications
  • Restoring corrosion protection
  • Removing topcoat defects
  • Product positioning
  • Advanced equipment training (HVLP and short wave infra-red)
  • Special effect topcoat repair procedures

Recreational Vehicle (RV) Refinishing

Students will learn the fundamentals and fine details of RV refinishing in this two-day course. Emphasis will be on product usage, mixing, hands-on applications and systems.  The course is designed for managers and technicians looking to learn more about RV products, procedures and regulations. Certification is available.

  • Safety procedures and equipment
  • Review current government regulations
  • Surface preparation & corrosion protection
  • Undercoat systems, options & applications
  • Equipment (HVLP and short wave infa-red)
  • Paint coating technology
  • Product selection for production
  • Topcoat systems, options & applications
