BMW has improved the head restraints on the 2018 X2 to boost the small SUV to TOP SAFETY PICK status. X2s built after July and equipped with optional front crash prevention earn the award.
The Sienna received a poor rating for structure, which allowed "as much as 20 inches of intrusion in the lower occupant compartment and more than 16 inches of intrusion at the dashboard."
Most of the TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards go to two manufacturers: Hyundai has six models earning the award, and Subaru has four. Mercedes-Benz has two, while Toyota, BMW and Ford have one each.
