I-CAR Debuts Course at NORTHEAST

March 24, 2017

March 24, 2017—Last weekend, I-CAR introduced its Vehicle Technology Trends and Diagnostics Overview Seminar (VT117LO1) at the NORTHEAST Show. The course, which is made up of nine modules, was presented by I-CAR instructors Peter Fryzel and Michael Bonsanto.

The Vehicle Trends and Diagnostics Overview Seminar highlights new vehicle features, technology and repair options that are being introduced by global automakers. The seminar is comprised of modules that introduce an overview of diagnostics, scan tools, pre- and post-scans, calibrations and the importance of continued training and education. The course lasts about four hours and is worth three credit hours.

Allan Smith, I-CAR regional manager for the Northeast, was onsite at the event and said that it was well-attended and the seminar was successful.

“The feedback we received was great,” Smith said. “The show was very busy, it was standing room only. All of the students seemed to get a lot out of it.”

After completing the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of scan tools

  • Discuss the growing use of composite reinforcements

  • Understand the unique collision repair considerations for many of the new 2017 vehicle platforms

  • Discuss near future trends and how they will impact the industry

  • Determine the basic differences between OBD II and OEM codes

  • Describe why maintaining good vehicle voltage for scans and troubleshooting is important

  • Understand the limitations of electrical system self-diagnostics

“I think this is a must-attend class for everyone in the collision repair industry as far as getting a good overview of today’s cars and what’s coming in the future,” Smith said. “This is our signature class—we’re showing what I-CAR is today. For repair centers that are working toward Gold Class or individuals looking for Platinum certification, this class is one of the classes that counts for all roles in the role specific training career path training that we do. It’s a class that anyone can take advantage of and it’s worthwhile to attend.”
