Dec. 23, 2016—Twenty-five states currently lack any collision repair shop approved to work on the Cadillac CT6, according to recent General Motors findings. The main issue at hand: General Motors has a patented method for manufacturing the CT6, which includes an industry-exclusive method for welding aluminum with steel.
Only 150 total U.S. shops have met the requirements to perform repairs on the CT6 per GM’s guidelines. Certification requires bespoke equipment and unique training from GM and I-CAR.
General Motors wholesale channel associate Rachel Rodriguez recently told GM Repair Insights, “depending on the existing resources a shop brings to the table, qualifying for the network can require little more than an audit or a more significant investment in time and equipment/tools, with full certification usually taking 1-3 months.”
To date, just 7,876 CT6s have been sold in 2016.
