Caliber Collision Donates Vehicle to Family of Child with ALS

Oct. 12, 2015

Oct. 12, 2015—Caliber Collision, along with the Auto Club of Southern California and West Coast Customs, refurbished a specially equipped van for 10-year-old Dominic Cumo, the youngest person to be diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the company announced on Friday.

Dominic and his family were presented the keys to the customized 2011 Chevrolet Town & Country as part of the National Auto Body Council's Recycled Rides program.

The van was donated by the Auto Club and restored by Caliber Collision technicians who donated their time at the Chino Valley center. West Coast Customs installed a wheelchair lift, custom wheels, television and other interior upgrades.

The customized vehicle will provide Cumo and his family comfortable transportation for the frequent commutes from the family’s home in Apple Valley to the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, which nominated the family for the Recycled Rides donation.

“We are humbled by Dominic’s spirit and passion,” said David Goldstein, Caliber Collision senior vice president-operations. “We hope this gift of transportation will enable Dominic and his family to indulge in life to its fullest. This gifting is just one more way that Caliber Collision restores those in need across the communities we serve to the rhythm of their lives.”

“At such a young age, Dominic is a true inspiration to us all,” said Rick Lewis, claims unit manager at the Auto Club. “We are proud to partner with Caliber Collision and West Coast Customs to ease the burden of transportation for Dominic and his family.”

"We are so glad to be able to be part of this great program,” said Ryan Friedlinghaus, West Coast Customs founder and CEO. “We hope Dominic and his family enjoy all the fun stuff we put in the van for him. May he enjoy every moment of it all!"
