May 20, 2015—On Saturday, Jessica Watkins was presented with a refurbished 2013 Ford Explorer through the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides program.
The keys were handed to Watkins, a member of the Air Force for 18 years, at Randy & Bob’s CARSTAR 40th Anniversary Open House in Butler, Pa.
Watkins, a mother of a two-year-old and three older children, walked a mile to and from work every day and relied on family and friends to get her to other necessary places. She was chosen as the recipient of the donation through the NABC and the Center for Community Services in Butler.
The vehicle donation was made through MetLife Auto & Home, a member of NABC and a partner of Recycled Rides since 2009.
“As an employee at Center for Community Resources, I am privileged to assist individuals in making a positive difference in their lives. CCR is grateful to Natalie Butcherine for calling and requesting assistance in linking a family of a veteran to a much needed vehicle,” said Jean Bowen. “It was inspiring to witness the recipient’s reaction when told that she would be the owner of a SUV. As a young mother, she values having a reliable means of transportation for her to maintain her employment but also to support the needs of her family. Thank you Randy & Bob’s CARSTAR for all you do!”
“This whole experience is very humbling. All I heard before leaving the military is that veterans are not well taken care of, but this experience has proven that to be wrong. I am proud to be from a great supportive community that is caring for veterans,” said Watkins.
