March 24, 2016—Volkswagen is likely to miss a court deadline today to reach an agreement with U.S. authorities over the diesel scandal, according to a report from Automotive News.
The missed deadline could incur more fines and sanctions.
VW has been in talks with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Justice Department, and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) over how to address the 580,000 rigged diesel engines. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer last month set a deadline for today for VW to tell U.S regulators it had found an acceptable fix.
German press reports today that VW had asked the court for a 14-day extension.
Potential fixes for the diesel scandal include a possible buyback offer for an unknown number of vehicles along with possible financial incentives for owners to get their vehicles repaired.
