ASAM Announces Venture into Standardizing Telematics Solutions

March 7, 2016

March 7, 2016—ASAM, an international technical standardization organization in automotive electronics and automated testing, announced on Monday its plans to expands its work scope to include telematics. The member organization Cummins Inc. approached ASAM with the request to further document common use cases relating to over-the-air communication.

The first step will be a workshop, “Remote 2-Way Communication,” co-hosted by Cummins Inc. and ASAM. The workshop will take place on March 31 in Novi, Mich. All global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier-1 suppliers (members and non-members) are invited to participate and to discuss standardization potential in the areas of:

  • telematics security
  • remote software / calibration updates
  • remote adjustment
  • remote diagnostics
  • prognostics
  • Big Data exchange services

The workshop will create a common understanding of the challenges and potential paths to solutions that can be addressed by a standardization project.

"ASAM is the right community for development of this type of project," says Gorance Eftimovski, director of engineering, connected systems and controls calibration FE, and board member of ASAM. "ASAM's history and industry connections in measurement, calibration, diagnostics systems and data storage systems make ASAM the perfect intersection to bring together user needs, requirements, and solutions from the marketplace."

"Our next step will be to integrate the many global telematics providers and stakeholders to co-develop a technical standard,” said Joseph Sparacino, business development manager.
