Insurance Rates on 2015 F-150 to Remain Unchanged

March 24, 2015

March 24, 2015—Insurance rates for the 2015 F-150 will remain roughly the same as for the 2014 steel model, according to a report from Automotive News on Monday.

The report states that rates could shift in a year as insurers study accident repair data to accurately take into account aluminum collision repair.

"The cost to insure the F-150 may go up, or it may go down," said Progressive Corp. spokesman Jeff Sibel, according to Automotive News. "We won't have [enough] data until we have claims experiences."

Consumer Reports said that Ford is confident that insurance premiums will be similar to those for the steel model, even though parts, training and equipment costs may be higher.

Spot checks by Automotive News showed insurance prices for the 2015 F-150 match those of the 2014 model.

Other vehicles that recently switched to aluminum—such as the 2004 Jaguar XJ, 2013 Range Rover and 2012 Audi A6—saw little change from the rates for the steel-bodied versions, according to the report.
