New York Collision Center Makes $22,000 Paint Donation to Education Program

Feb. 28, 2014

Feb. 28, 2014—Carubba Collision Corp., based in Buffalo, N.Y., this week donated $22,000 worth of automotive paint to the Erie 1 BOCES Automotive Collision Program.

The Erie 1 BOCES Automotive Collision Program is a technical education initiative for high school and adult students. The training program—which is offered through 19 local school districts in western New York—covers the complete process of auto body restoration, including metal straightening, glass and panel replacement, fiberglass repair, painting preparation and finishing techniques.

Carubba Collision said roughly 100 high school and adult students will gain additional hands-on learning opportunities as a result of the paint donation.

"The refinishing section of our curriculum is very expensive," said William Peffer, automotive teacher at Erie 1 BOCES Kenton Career and Technical Center. "This donation will definitely offset the budget and increase opportunities for additional hands-on participation."

Joe Carubba, president and CEO of Carubba Collision, currently serves on the Erie 1 BOCES advisory board. Randy Pinkowski, corporate trainer and safety officer for Carubba Collision, is also an active member on an Erie 1 BOCES advisory committee.

"Carubba Collision Corp. is a prime example of how business and educators can work together," said Michael Capuana, director of career and technical education at Erie 1 BOCES. "They have taken in many of our students as interns and also employ some of our graduates."
