Oklahoma Insurance Department Releases PSA Regarding Insurer Steering

Dec. 15, 2014

Dec. 15, 2014—The Oklahoma Insurance Department has released a public service announcement outlining the rights auto owners possess when it comes to choosing a repair facility and working alongside insurance companies when it comes to claiming a repair on a vehicle.

The PSA comes in the wake of a warning by the Oklahoma Attorney General, who in November pointed out the practice of “steering” by insurance companies, where certain insurers coerce consumers to shops that use salvaged or other substandard materials to make repairs, while claiming to use new parts or materials made by the automobile manufacturer.

To report suspected fraud, contact the attorney general’s Public Protection Unit at 405.521.2029 or 918.581.2885 or e-mail [email protected].
