PPG Releases New Midcoat for Vibrance Collection

Aug. 19, 2015—PPG Automotive Refinish introduced on Tuesday its VWM500 Custom Midcoat, a solvent-borne, VOC-compliant Vibrance Collection product formulated exclusively for application with waterborne basecoats.

The VWM500 allows painters to use Vibrance Collection special-effect pigments and dyes to create multiple color layers over waterborne basecoats.

“VWM500 gives painters new freedom to create show-stopping, head-turning finishes,” said Steve Lehner, PPG product manager. “With VWM500, painters can take advantage of the array of Vibrance Collection offerings and allow their imaginations to really take off with bold colors and dazzling effects. And they can use it with waterborne products including ENVIROBASE High Performance basecoat. We’re very excited to see what PPG customers do with this new midcoat.”

The VWM500 is fast-drying, easy to apply and is fully VOC-compliant when developing custom finishes, the company said in a release. Eventually, the VWM500 will replace VWM5555 in VWB Vibrance Collection formulas. As the matches are completed, VMW500-compatible formulas will be released.
