July 30, 2014—The Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA) certified and placed more parts in the market during the first half of 2014 than it did in the same period last year, the association announced recently.
Established in 1987, CAPA is a non-profit organization that develops and oversees a test program to guarantee the suitability and quality of automotive parts.
So far, the program has certified 61 percent more part applications and placed 30 percent more parts into the market than it did at this time last year. It has also increased the number of manufacturers participating in its program by 10 new companies, or 25 percent overall.
In the wake of several recalls by automotive vehicle and parts manufacturers, CAPA sees its growth as a sign that more shops and insurers are looking for ways to reduce the risk of using faulty parts.
“While insurers and shops are reducing the risks associated with aftermarket parts, the big winners are consumers who are getting more and more fairly priced, high-quality parts for one of their most prized possessions, their vehicle,” said Jack Gillis, CAPA executive director.
Each CAPA-certified part includes a CAPA seal.
