Celette and Elektron give first I-CAR Makeover grant recipient a $20K welder

Aug. 23, 2010

August 23, 2010—Celette Inc. and Elektron Inc. donated a $20,000 Elektron MI-100 spot welder to the Steel Center Area Vocational Technical School as part of the 2009 Ultimate Collision Education Makeover grant the school received from the I-CAR Education Foundation.

The MI-100 was specifically requested by the Steel Center Area school during the grant application process.

“I was definitely concerned about selecting the proper spot welder for our facility to train future collision repair technicians. There are many companies to choose from,” said Jim Fichera, a collision instructor at Steel Center Area school. “After having the opportunity to use different welders at the Toyota Collision Training Center, and completing the necessary destructive tests, we all found out that the Electron MI-100 welder was the best welder and had the capacity and power to weld the uni-body frame halves together on the vehicle we were working on.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 9 will reveal the all the new tools, equipment and supplies the school received. The Steel Center Area program was the first ever to receive the $50,000 grant.

Applications for the 2010 grant are still being accepted through Sept. 7. The winner will be announced later this fall at the SEMA show. For more information on the makeover grant, go to ed-foundation.org.
