GM names BASF supplier of the year

March 17, 2011

March 17, 2011 — BASF recently received its seventh General Motors Supplier of the Year Award in nine years, the chemical company announced Wednesday.

The award recognizes BASF for performing above expectations as a global supplier of OEM coatings to GM in 2010.

“This is a list of world class, best of the best, suppliers to the automotive market," said Bob Socia, GM’s vice president of global purchasing and supply chain. “The Supplier of the Year Award winners are part of an elite group, those who have demonstrated a sustained focus and dedication to GM's priorities and continued success. This is critically important given the complexity of today's automotive marketplace.”

Beate Ehle, executive vice president of BASF, accepted the award on March 10 at a ceremony at GM headquarters in Detroit.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized as a global supplier by General Motors,” Ehle said. “Winning this award for the seventh time is a tremendous source of pride for BASF and demonstrates the long term and outstanding commitment and relationship of BASF and especially our colleagues from the General Motors team to our customer.”

The Supplier of the Year Award was introduced in 1992. A global team of purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics executives determine the winner.

BASF Corp., based in Florham Park, N.J., is the North American affiliate of BASF SE in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The North American branch has roughly 16,400 employees and had sales of $17.7 billion last year. For more information, go to basf.us.
