Recycled Rides: GEICO, Service King donate cars

Nov. 23, 2010

Nov. 23, 2010—GEICO and Service King Collision Centers partnered with the National Auto Body Council’s (NABC) Recycled Rides program to donate five vehicles to families in need.

GEICO donated a 2004 Saturn Vue, a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country, a 2007 Chevy Equinox and a 2004 Honda Odyssey to four military families in Long Island, N.Y., on Nov. 13. Local NABC shops refurbished the cars.

“GEICO was delighted to have this opportunity to make a direct impact on our local community,” said Ken Lalia, a GEICO manager who helped organize the project and present the vehicles to the families. “This was really a community effort and it’s a pleasure to be part of such an honorable program.”

Service King donated a Chrysler Pacifica to the Imah family in Dallas on Nov. 22, according to a Service King press release_notes. The Imah’s family car recently broke down, and was needed for the single mother to get to work each day without having to take a three-hour bus commute.

“Service King has a big heart,” said Cathy Bonner, president of Service King. “Our Service King family put their hands and their hearts to the task of helping the Imah family. That’s what the giving season is all about. This is a gift from our family to the Imah family.”
