UTI offers contests for scholarships

Oct. 24, 2011

Oct. 24, 2011—Students interested in careers as collision repair, automotive, diesel, motorcycle and marine technicians can compete for a $25,000 scholarship in two contests run by the Universal Technical Institute (UTI).

To enter either contest –- Why I Want to Be a Technician and Why My High School Auto Shop Needs a Make-Over –- students can upload videos to the UTI Foundation’s Facebook page. Winners will be determined by a combination of online votes and Drive to Succeed Committee judging. The contests run through Nov. 30.

The first contest, Why I Want to Be a Technician, is open to high school seniors across the nation who are interested in becoming collision repair, automotive, diesel, motorcycle and marine technicians. The winning student will get a $25,000 scholarship to any UTI campus. A $10,000 scholarship will be given to the second-place winner, and a $5,000 scholarship is available to the third-place winner.

The second contest is open to students and instructors to win new shop tools and technology. Schools who win the Why My High School Auto Shop Needs a Make-Over contest will get $25,000, $10,000 and $5,000 in shop upgrades for first, second and third place spots, respectively.

The video competition kicks off the second-annual Drive to Succeed event, which happens at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. The event happens March 31 in Chandler, Ariz.

Official rules and more information is at the UTI Foundation website. Winners will be announced on or around Jan. 19.
